Fifth gang rape suspect arrested
Authorities say they have arrested a fifth suspect in the alleged gang rape of a 27-year-old Palestine woman earlier this year.
James Eddie Henderson, 29, of Palestine was arrested by Houston County sheriff’s deputies late Friday afternoon on an Anderson County warrant for engaging in organized criminal activity/aggravated sexual assault, according to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor.
Records show Henderson was released from the Houston County Jail in Crockett late Friday after posting a $150,000 pre-set bond set by Anderson County Justice of the Peace Carl Davis.
During the wee morning hours of Sept. 7, authorities have said they were contacted by a 27-year-old female who reported she had been repeatedly sexually assaulted by multiple males near Pat Morris Lake off of CR 2202, adding that one of them attempted to run over her with a vehicle following the attack.
The alleged victim also told authorities that the men attempted to give her a “hot shot” of narcotics against her will.
Following the alleged assault, authorities have said the woman was able to escape on foot, running with only one shoe to a nearby residence.
The four suspects previously charged with the same offense include Mark Howard Huffman, 53, James Wesley Sherrill, 30, Dustin Matthew Huffman, 30, and Victor Wade Davis, 39, all of Palestine.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, the Huffmans, Sherrill and Davis all remained in the Anderson County Jail.
Davis’ bonds totaled $225,000, while the Huffmans and Sherrill were being held in lieu of a $150,000 bond.
