Palestine couple jailed for drugs

A Palestine couple remained in the Anderson County Jail Tuesday following their arrests last week for allegedly having methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia accessible to young children inside their local residence.

Kipper Dale McGuire, 37, and Rebecca Denise Anderson, 38, both of Palestine, were both charged with the offenses of possession of a controlled substance between 1 and 4 grams and abandoning/endangering a child last week, according to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor.

McGuire and Anderson were arrested shortly after 9:35 a.m. on Nov. 19 when Anderson County sheriff’s deputies went to their residence in the 2800 block of North Jackson Street to serve a violation of probation warrant against the former, according to the sheriff.

Upon the officers’ arrival, the sheriff said Anderson answered the door and advised that McGuire was in a bedroom inside the residence.

Upon entering the house, the deputies observed “little empty baggies” and “needles in plain sight,” Taylor said. They subsequently observed “an open safe on the floor” of a bedroom closet, he added.

The safe contained “clear, plastic baggies with a white powdery substance” believed to be methamphetamine, in addition to “several needles with a white powder,” according to Taylor.

The white powdery substances field tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed a total of 1.7 grams, including packaging, according to the sheriff.

“Two fully loaded needles” and “a spoon” which included a small amount of methamphetamine could not be weighed, Taylor added.

A 3-year-old boy was at the residence at the time of the arrests, while an 8-year-old girl, who also lives there, was at school, according to the sheriff.

The sheriff said he believed Anderson is the biological mother of both children.

“CPS (Child Protective Services) was contacted and they did remove the children from the home,” Taylor said. “It was a dangerous situation for these kids. We find this all too often.”

As of late Tuesday afternoon, McGuire and Anderson both remained in the Anderson County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $125,000, according to records.
