Anderson County sheriff’s authorities are investigating a burglary this past weekend occurring at a weekend vacation home outside of Elkhart.
Troy Black, chief deputy for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, said the burglary of a habitation at a residence on Lake Ioni near Elkhart was reported to his agency shortly after 11:15 a.m. Saturday.
The Jacksonville homeowners had arrived at their residence around 6:30 p.m. Friday to discover various doors open, including ones to the master bedroom, a kitchen cabinet and chest of drawers, according to the chief deputy.
“There were clothes laying around all over the floor,” Black said. “There were numerous items missing.”
Total value of the stolen items was approximately $1,325, according to the chief deputy.
Among the items taken were a plastic storage box containing ammunition and accessories for a shotgun valued at $350; a camouflage fishing suit valued at $300; a .410 gauge shotgun valued at $250; a Garcia rod and reel valued at $200; a pair of cowboy boots valued at $150; a pair of hiking shoes valued at $35; a headlamp valued at $20; and a board game valued at $20, according to Black.
Entry into the residence was possibly gained through the front door, he added.
“The house had been vacant for about three weeks,” Black said.
Anyone with information leading to the arrest of a suspect in the burglary may be eligible to receive a reward of up to $1,000 from Anderson County Crimestoppers.
