Black history is still 'history in the making'
Black History column
Grace and peace be unto you, and in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
As we embark upon this Black Historical month of February, to celebrate and to reflect upon the past, we must remember that our history was established, prior to the month of February.
It was throughout the pages of pain and sufferings, sacrifice of lives and the torture and torment received, that our forefathers and grandparents had endured, for our freedom.
It’s no wonder, that their total dependency, was upon the Lord, even while being beaten, picking cotton, on auction blocks being sold, they could even have hope, when it appeared to be hopeless.
I’ve discovered that every now and then, they would look towards heaven, and break out with an old familiar hymn, such as “Amazing Grace,” that brought them thru many dangers toils and snares, they believed in songs like, “Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land, “Beans from Heaven, Steal Away, The Lord would make a way somehow, and their Hope was built on nothing less, than Jesus Blood and righteousness…
Regardless of what the circumstances were, they remain faithful to God and Trusted in Him completely.
So this month, consider making history, after February has passed on.
I believe that it was Brother J. Ivy, a narrated poet, said it best: “History in the Making.”
History is more than a memory, it’s a movement, an act by certain individuals, who have found the ability to make time stand still. Whether they be young or old, the brave and the bold, who aren’t afraid to have their stories told.
So those stories might be echoed, and echoed , and echoed.
So black voices speak out, timelines are effected. Legacies are born, as heaven uses these beautiful instruments to tell their tale.
To make a statement, to do something monumental. Something memorable. A reminder that we’re the Creator’s creations. So capes are no longer kept in closets. They’re put on, as ordinary people are transformed into heroes as they fly through their community and create change.
Because that’s what history is…”change.”
Which starts with the vision of one person, therefore Black History can’t be confined by one month, because Black History is made every single day, by those who remind the world how beautiful black really is.
In spite of all that we encounter, we must remember what the Lord had instructed us to do, Psalms 37:3-5, 7, simply tells us, to Trust in the Lord, Delight thyself also in the Lord, Commit thy way unto the Lord, and Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him.

3-Minute Bible Study: The heart of the gospel
Rome was known for it's great road system. So Christians call five verses in the book Romans that lead us to salvation the "Roman Road". Today's Bible Study, Romans 5: 1 - 9, takes a look at the passage surrounding the middle verse of the Roman Road:

PISD starts school year with more students
Another summer has come and gone and we are off to another great start in PISD. The 2010-2011 school year has welcomed the district with over 100 more students than last year at this time. We want to welcome those families and students who chose PISD as their new home and we are honored that you decided to attend PISD.

3-Minute Bible Study: Hope in times of trouble
One of my favorite scriptures for encouragement is Lamentations 3. Jeremiah wrote this about 600 years before Christ. Jerusalem had been overtaken by Babylon and the people had either been killed or taken as slaves. Jeremiah had been trying to warn the people, but they wouldn't listen.

3-MINUTE BIBLE STUDY: Sharing basic truths about Christianity
I think we all need more of God's Word in our lives, but the challenge is finding the time. I'm planning to write a Bible study column that you can read in less than three minutes. I'll never be preachy or dogmatic, but will simply try to expose what is taught in the Scripture. We all have our different beliefs on spiritual issues, and I know I have mine, but as a journalist I vow to be as fair as possible.

Repent pride, sins and come before the cross of Jesus
If I remember all the Greek tragedies I had to read and study in college, it seems the main characters always had what was referred to as the “fatal flaw.”

Fishing fun
Son Scott loves to fish. He will fish in any weather, anytime. He will fish in tanks, ponds, lakes, streams, rivers, oceans, ditches, wells, mud puddles. He fishes spring and summer, fall and winter, high altitude or low. It doesn’t matter to him where the fish are so long as he can get close enough to them to toss a line or float a cork.

Kaleidoscope: Winning takes more than bragging
They called him “B.O.” because that’s what he was noted for. His real name was Charles Walton, but nobody ever addressed him that way. For all the folks in our rural community, he was just “ol’ B.O.” And the reason was obvious. You could smell B.O. from 10 feet away (and farther sometimes, if the wind was just right.) He had evidently developed an acute allergy to soap and water at a tender age, for even the older men in our area could not recall when B.O. didn’t smell. Unlike most fellows of 30 or more on the surrounding farms, B.O. had never married.

Three-Minute Bible Study: Bartimaeus receives his sight
One of my favorite Bible Stories is from Mark 10: 46-52. I love this story because it is so full of illustrations:
