Two men held in weekend stabbing death

PALESTINE — Two local men are in custody after being charged in connection with the weekend stabbing death of a Palestine man.

Palestine police say Jason Villanueva was pronounced dead at Palestine Regional Medical Center Sunday after being transported there with a stab wound to the chest.

Jose Arturo Garcia, 23, and Franco Garcia, 36, were arrested Sunday and charged with Villanueva’s murder.

Police say they responded to the corner of Howard and Illinois streets Sunday after receiving a report of a fight at that location.

Upon their arrival, officers found Villanueva lying near the street with a stab wound to the upper chest. He was transported to PRMC where he was later pronounced dead.

Muniz said Jose Garcia and Franco Garcia were subsequently arrested Sunday in the 700 block of Cottage Street and charged with murder.

As of Monday morning, Jose Garcia and Franco Garcia remained in the Anderson County Jail awaiting arraignment.

Anderson County Justice of the Peace James Todd has ordered that an autopsy be performed on Villanueva’s body at the Southeast Texas Forensic Science Center in Tyler.
