Fourth suspect in gang rape arrested
The fourth suspect in an alleged gang rape in early September was arrested over the weekend in the Tennessee Colony area.
Victor Wade Davis, 39, of Palestine was arrested around 10 a.m. Saturday at a residence in the 8000 block of FM 645 in the general area of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison units, according to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor.
The sheriff said deputies Charles Conner, Justin Rackley and John Wright responded to the residence after authorities received "an anonymous tip" that Davis might be there.
Upon their arrival, Taylor said two of the deputies went to the front of the residence and the third to the rear of the residence.
Davis apparently saw the deputies drive up and bolted out a back door, according to the sheriff. He was quickly taken into custody, however, he added.
"He (Davis) didn't have a chance to get away," Taylor said. "He was arrested without incident."
Following his arrest, deputies also discovered "4 grams of powder cocaine in a plastic baggy in his front pant pocket," Taylor said.
In addition to the initial charge of engaging in organized criminal activity/aggravated sexual assault, Davis was charged with possession of a controlled substance between 4-to-200 grams based on the drug possession, according to the sheriff.
As of late Monday morning, Davis remained in the Anderson County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $225,000, according to records.
Authorities had been seeking Davis since a warrant for his arrest was issued on Sept. 29.
"I think this is going to wrap that up as far as suspects go," Taylor said.
During the wee morning hours of Sept. 7, authorities have said they were contacted by a 27-year-old female who reported she had been repeatedly sexually assaulted by multiple males near Pat Morris Lake off of CR 2202, adding that one of them attempted to run over her with a vehicle following the attack.
The alleged victim also told authorities the men attempted to give her a "hot shot" of narcotics against her will.
Following the alleged assault, authorities have said the woman was able to escape on foot, running with only one shoe to a nearby residence.
Mark Howard Huffman, 53, and James Wesley Sherrill, 30, both of Palestine, were arrested four days later at a residence near the scene of the alleged assault.
A third suspect in the case, Dustin Matthew Huffman, 30, of Palestine, was arrested at a Leon County residence on Sept. 22.
As of late Monday morning, the Huffmans and Sherrill all remained in the Anderson County Jail in lieu of a $150,000 bond, according to records.
