H.S. Football Roundup: Milford tops Oakwood in six-man monster matchup

KAUFMAN — Milford 63, Oakwood 54

In a matchup of two six-man football powerhouses, the second-ranked Milford Bulldogs used a big first quarter to edge past third-ranked Oakwood, 63-54, Friday night in Milford.

The Bulldogs took a three-score lead in the game’s first quarter, and forced the Panthers to claw back the entire game.

Oakwood cut the lead to 31-26 at the half, and even took the lead late in the third quarter, but couldn’t hang on.

The loss is Oakwood’s first in the regular season since 2010.

Oakwood (2-1) travels to Trinidad Friday.

Centerville 44, Elkhart 6

For the Elkhart football team, Friday night played out like too many Friday nights before it.

Elkhart turned the ball over six times — four alone in the first half — allowing Centerville to run away with their non-district matchup, 44-6.

Elkhart forced a Centerville three-and-out on the Tigers very first drive, and were then moving the ball on their own opening drive, until the Elks turned the ball over.

It’s been the story of Elkhart’s season, and season that’s seen them open 0-3.

The Elks will try and right the ship Friday when they travel to rival Grapeland, who earned their first win of the year over Lovelady, 24-22.

Grapeland 24, Lovelady 22

The Grapeland Sandies earned their first win of 2012, holding off a charge from rival Lovelady for a 24-22 victory.

The Sandies will look to make it two rivalry wins in a row this week, when they welcome in winless Elkhart (0-3) to Sandies Stadium.

Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
