On Saturday, the Texas State Railroad Society planted 262 trees along the section of Texas State Railroad track that runs through the I.D. Fairchild State Forest in Cherokee County. Varieties included dogwood, eastern red bud and red maple. The planting was supervised by Jason Ellis of the Texas Forest Service. The Texas State Railroad will begin its 2013 season on March 2. Piney Woods Steam Excursions will depart from both the Palestine and Rusk depots on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m. Special weekday runs will be offered during the two weeks of spring break, Tuesday through Friday on March 15-19 and March 19-22.
